What a Difference a Day Makes!

Wildcat Cast

Have you ever heard the old saying, “What a difference a day makes!”?  Well, get a load of how my day changed yesterday!  My first cast!  It all happened when I had a fight with a bungee cord and guess what…I lost!

While going through my usual evening routine after work, I was feeding the dogs and quickly turned to empty their water bucket to get them fresh water.  As I was turning, the bungee cord that keeps Toby from turning the water bucket over caught on my right shoe string, pulling my foot out from underneath me.  The left foot was in fast motion and went in the opposite direction, taking me down!

I must have been lying on the concrete floor of the dog pen for 20 minutes, trying to settle my stomach from the pain while Bailey and Toby are standing over me as if to say, “what are you doing down there?”  Finally I was able to get up and hobble to the house (Mental Note:  always take my cellular telephone from now on) and because I was painfully able to put weight on my left foot, I thought I had just sprained something.  Oh no, I couldn’t just sprain it…I had to break it!  🙁   It’s all or nothing for me!

Several ice packs later and a sleepless night, I thought it might be a good idea to go to the doctor.  When he walked in with my x-rays in his hand, I knew it was much more than a sprained ankle…it was broken.

With my world slowed down considerably, I have four weeks in this cast to look forward to and a walking cast afterwards…what a bummer!  🙁

Like I said before, “What a difference a day makes!”

Update: (4/28/2016)  No surgery needed on my ankle!  🙂  Three more weeks with the cast and then three months with a walking boot!!
